Lowell Philharmonic Orchestra

Lowell Philharmonic youth concerto winners' concert.

Valerie Taylor conducts the Lowell Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) in a free “Pops” Concert on Friday, May 7, 2010 at 8:00 pm at the Pawtucket Congregational Church, 15 Mammoth Road in Lowell, MA.

The program features winners of the LPO’s 2010 Jeanne Selander Memorial Youth Concerto Competition. This year’s finalists were chosen from a pool of 28 talented young musicians, from middle school through high school age, who auditioned in February. The winners are invited to perform a solo with the orchestra.

This year, the orchestra selected two performers. First Place winner Seohee Min of Southborough, MA, will play Tchaikovsky’s Concerto in D Major for violin. Also on the program is Second Place winner Jaclyn Freshman, also a violinist, of Newton, MA, who will perform Maurice Ravel’s Tzigane.

In addition, the program includes such favorites as “Moon River”, “Georgia on my Mind”, and “The Way You Look Tonight”, as well as selections from “Fiddler on the Roof”, and others.

These programs are supported in part by grants from the Lowell Cultural Council, Carlisle Cultural Council, Chelmsford Cultural Council, Methuen Cultural Council, Tyngsboro Cultural Council, and Westford Cultural Council, local agencies which are supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

No tickets or reservations are required. Free parking is available on the street near the church.
