The New World Jazz Composers Octet, featuring trumpet and flugelhorn player Walter Platt, a UMass Lowell faculty member, will give the first performance of the semester in the “Music on the Merrimack: Global Echoes” concert series. This free concert is open to the public. The octet’s world-class musicians came together 11 years ago through their shared love of performing new music by contemporary composers.
The show is presented by the UMass Lowell Music Department and the College of Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. “Music on the Merrimack” features musicians from Lowell and the Greater Boston area whose work reflects the region’s various cultural communities and traditions. Performers offer master classes and demonstrations during the day for UMass Lowell students.
