Lowell, Mass. – Circle Health announced today the appointment of Lowell General Hospital President Joseph (Jody) White of Tyngsboro as the chief executive officer of Lowell General Hospital and Circle Health, the integrated healthcare delivery system serving the Merrimack Valley and surrounding area, effective Monday, April 10, 2017. The appointment was unanimously approved by the Circle Health board of directors.

“The board is very proud of all that the leadership has accomplished, and appreciates the cohesive and dedicated team built by Norm Deschene,” said Dan Mansur, Circle Health board chairman. “Over the last decade, this team has successfully merged Lowell General Hospital and Saints Medical Center, introduced the Circle Health system and strongly aligned its members and healthcare providers, completed a major capital building campaign and expansion of the main campus, brought new outpatient services out to our community, all while strengthening its ‘best place to work’ culture and financial stability. We are confident in Jody’s leadership into the next decade.”

With this change, Norm Deschene will now focus exclusively on his role as CEO of Wellforce, the growing health system formed in October 2014 by Tufts Medical Center and Circle Health. As CEO of Wellforce, which now also includes Hallmark Health and its hospitals Melrose-Wakefield Hospital and Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Deschene will support its member organizations to ensure their continued success. He will also work diligently to keep high quality, affordable care available locally, while also bringing innovative care and service offerings to Wellforce members’ communities.

“I am thrilled for both the organization and the communities we serve.” says Deschene about the appointment. “Jody’s wealth of experience and passion for delivering on Circle Health’s promise of Complete connected care makes him the ideal choice for this expanded position. We look forward to Jody bringing a continued strong and dedicated focus to growing Circle Health and strengthening the services and programs we offer to our community. I look forward to continuing a close working relationship with Jody, and the other hospital leaders in the Wellforce system.”

White joined Lowell General Hospital in 2003 and served for 10 years as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer before becoming President of Lowell General Hospital in 2013. As president, White has been responsible for the overall vision and leadership of the hospital’s management. Since he joined the leadership team, Lowell General Hospital has earned both regional and national recognition for its quality of care and work environment, including Magnet designation for the second time by the American Nurses Credentialing Center– an honor celebrating excellence in patient care held by only 4% of hospitals nationally. White holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of New Haven and a Bachelor of Science in Allied Health from the University of Bridgeport.

“It is with great honor and respect that I expand my responsibilities and commitment to our community as CEO of Lowell General Hospital and Circle Health.” says White. “Norm and I have worked very closely over the years and feel this could not be a better time for me to expand my leadership to the system level. I’m very excited to continue to strengthen the services we provide to our community, which deserves the very best in healthcare and wellness.”
