On Friday, March 11 at 8 PM, Valerie Taylor conducts the Lowell Philharmonic Orchestra in their annual free “Spotlight on Youth” concert at the Pawtucket Congregational Church, 15 Mammoth Road in Lowell, MA.

This program features area youth with the orchestra performing Telemann’s Don Quixote Suite, as well as 13-year old Kadar Qian, one of the winners of the orchestra’s Jeanne Selander Concerto Competition, playing Chopin’s Piano Concerto #2 in f minor.  In addition, the orchestra will perform Mendelssohn’s Symphony #5.

Kadar Qian is a native of Westford, MA.  Among Kadar’s credits, he won the Boston Civic Symphony Youth Concerto Competition in 2010, the Metrowest Symphony Young Artists Competition, the Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford, CT, the 2009 Steinway Society of Massachusetts concerto competition and the Quincy Symphony Orchestra’s concerto competition.  In addition, he has performed more than 60 times with orchestras throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York City.

No tickets or reservations are required.

Free parking is available in the church parking lot, on the street, and in the bank parking lot across the street.

This concert is supported in part by grants from the Carlisle Cultural Council, Chelmsford Cultural Council, Methuen Cultural Council, Dracut Cultural Council, Tyngsboro Cultural Council, and Westford Cultural Council, local agencies which are supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. We also thank the Greater Lowell Community Foundation for their generous support.
