Help Lowell General's Support the Girls campaign by making a Bra Purse.

Make a bra purse and help spread the word about breast cancer awareness month at Lowell General Hospital

Lowell, MA – October is breast cancer awareness month, and Lowell General Hospital has begun its Support the Girls campaign to increase awareness of breast cancer and the importance of early detection. During the month of October, there are plenty of ways to get out and.

One special the public is invited to participate in is the “Make a Bra Purse.” You are invited to design your own handbag, wear it out and about, and show it off by making it your Facebook profile photo. You can also Tweet a link to your Facebook page, Flickr photo gallery, or personal website where your creation is on display. You’ll get people talking and let them know about the importance of early detection for breast cancer.

For examples of bra purses made by women in Greater Lowell as part of the Breast Cancer Support Group at Lowell General Hospital, please visit the Lowell General Hospital Online Gallery at or stop by the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell to see the bra purses in person from October 1 – 29.

The museum exhibit, “The Bra Purse: Carrying a Message of Inspiration and Courage” displays more than two dozen purses and the exhibit is growing with contributions by other women in the community. After Lowell, it will then continue on tour to help raise awareness in other cities and venues.

This is a fun awareness-builder and you’re encouraged to participate and help spread the word. If this isn’t your forte, please visit the Hospital website to learn about upcoming events and activities. During the month of October, please Support the Girls!
