Carole Cowan, president of Middlesex Community College, will be keynote speaker at the 16th annual Lowell Women’s Week Breakfast, to be held at 7:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 28, at Lenzi’s, 810 Merrimack Ave. in Dracut.

President Cowan’s vision, leadership and commitment to area communities have contributed to MCC’s innovative and entrepreneurial spirit, and phenomenal growth. Formerly dean of business, then vice president of administration & finance at Middlesex, Cowan became president of the college in 1990. As MCC celebrates its 40th year – and Cowan marks her 20th as president ¬– the college has grown to serve more than 20,000 students in credit and noncredit programs.

MCC is a proud supporter of Lowell Women’s Week 2011 and will host other special events during the week-long celebration, to be held Feb. 27-March 8. Lowell Women’s Week 2011 events supported by Middlesex include:

MCC’s Sixth Annual Women in STEM Luncheon – 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.; Tuesday, March 1; MCC’s Lowell Campus Cafeteria, 33 Kearney Square. This FREE luncheon will feature a panel of women studying in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and math). They will share stories about achieving their goals at four-year institutions and beyond. Writing the Immigrant Girl’s Experience – 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.; Wednesday, March 2; MCC’s Federal Building Assembly Room, 50 Kearney Square.
