As part of its Visiting Writers Series, Middlesex Community College will host award-winning poet Lloyd Schwartz who will be reading and discussing his work at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, in the Federal Building Assembly Room, 50 Kearney Square, on the Lowell campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Schwartz has published four books of poetry, including his most recent, “Little Kisses.” His poems, articles and reviews have appeared in the New Yorker, the Atlantic, Vanity Fair, the New Republic and the Paris Review. His poetry has been honored with a Pushcart Prize and with publication in “The Best American Poetry” series.

Schwartz is a professor of English at UMass Boston, where he has served as director of the Creative Writing Program and helped establish a new MFA program in creative writing. He is an internationally recognized authority on the work of poet Elizabeth Bishop

An award-winning classical music critic for NPR’s “Fresh Air,” Swartz is also senior editor of classical music for New York Arts, and served for many years as the classical music editor of the Boston Phoenix. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Criticism in 1994.
