Middlesex Community College’s International and Multicultural Affairs Office presents “From Genocide to Cultural Renewal in Cambodia,” a talk by Arn Chorn-Pond. The event will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 2, at MCC’s Federal Building Assembly Room, 50 Kearney Square, on the Lowell campus.

Arn Chorn-Pond, a survivor of Cambodia’s horrific killing fields and now an internationally known peace activist, will speak about his own healing and the way the arts can heal a nation. Chorn-Pond is a former director of youth programs for the Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association in Lowell. His story is the subject of Patricia McCormick’s book “Never Fall Down,” a finalist for the 2013 National Book Award. Desmond Tutu described the book as, “One of the most inspiring and powerful books I’ve ever read.”

This event is co-sponsored by Cambodian Living Arts (CLA), a program of the Marion Institute, founded by Chorn-Pond. The mission of CLA is to facilitate the transformation of Cambodia through the arts by promoting awareness of, and advocating for, the arts with cultural policymakers and major institutions.
