Lowell Devils Shawn Cote

Shawn Cote, Manager of the Devils Corporate Partnerships.

Shawn Cote is the Manager of Corporate Partnerships for the Lowell Devils Hockey Team, the AHL minor league hockey affiliate of the NHL’s New Jersey Devils, and he is also a Lowell, Massachusetts resident. Prior to joining the Devils in this management position in 2006, Cote served our nation for seven years in the Army National Guard, which included a one year deployment to Mosul, Iraq. Additionally, Cote also worked in the Marketing Department of the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce.

As the Manager for Corporate Partnerships, Cote works with local businesses to increase their exposure to fans at Lowell Devils games and Devils events at Tsongas Arena. Cote develops advertising and marketing plans with the companies, allowing them to sponsor giveaways (such as bobblehead dolls and Bang Sticks), post arena signage, and advertise in other on and off-ice promotions.

In addition to working for the Lowell Devils, Shawn was also elected as the Co-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Greater Lowell Chamber of Commerce, where he works to promote events and business in the city of Lowell and the Merrimack Valley.

Interview

Lowell.com: What is it about Devils games that people love the most?

Shawn Cote: We pride ourselves on being affordable, fun, family entertainment. We have world class hockey players on the ice that are one step away from making it to the NHL and a quality team that is pushing for a spot in the playoffs, but we try to create an atmosphere to ensure that everyone has a great experience when they come to one of our games.

Lowell.com: What has been your favorite game day promotion, and what is the biggest fan favorite promotion at Devils games?

Shawn Cote: I think it would have to be one of our most recent promotions. We gave away 2,500 Lowell Devils Mr. Potato Head dolls. From a fans perspective, it was a new unique promotion and I think something everyone could relate to. So many of us grew up with a Mr. Potato Head as kids. I think it was my favorite just because of the excitement it created amongst our fans.

If you ask our fans, I think they would say our T-shirt toss. We throw about 50-100 T-shirts per game and they’re on their feet every time, cheering to get one thrown to them.

Lowell.com: How are the Devils active in the Lowell community?

Shawn Cote: From mascot and player appearances to helping local and national charities raise much needed funds, we try to take every chance to give back to the community. We’ve tried very hard to make a community service part a staple of being a part of the Lowell Devils and to be a part of the fabric of Lowell and the Merrimack Valley.

Most recently, we helped raise over $30,000 to benefit the Susan G Komen Fund, Easter Seals, and YMCA of Lowell through the CVS Celebrity All-Star Game held prior to a Devils game. While it’s great to be able to give back monetarily, we try to be most generous with our time and effort. That’s why you’ll see our players helping out at practice for a local youth hockey team or our front office volunteering at a Boys & Girls Club function.

Lowell.com: When you aren’t at the Arena, where is your favorite spot in Lowell to hang out?

Shawn Cote: I enjoy getting downtown. There are so many great spots to have a great meal or grab a good drink. Downtown has a great feel, it’s always a good time.

Lowell.com: What Devils accomplishment are you most proud of during your tenure?

Shawn Cote: Our growth in attendance numbers and relationships we have fostered. The part I love most about my job is getting out and meeting all of the great people in the city of Lowell. It’s inspiring to be able to speak with the fans, our sponsors and the business and civic leaders of Lowell and hear their support for the city and the team.

We have also just recently accomplished our first sell out in Lowell Devils. That’s a great accomplishment for our staff. We have worked very hard over the last three seasons to be a part of the community, to be creative with our ticket packages, promotions and giveaways and create a great experience for our fans. Hopefully, our sell out will be the first of many in the future.

Lowell.com: Thanks, Shawn! Don’t miss out on your chance to see some of tomorrow’s NHL superstars today while they play for the Lowell Devils!
