Rebuilding Together in Lowell, MA.

Rebuilding Together helping residents of Lowell, MA.

Rebuilding Together Lowell is the local affiliate of the Rebuilding Together non-profit national organization whose primary goal is “to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize communities.” The local chapter was originally founded in 1997 by Peter Richards, and it was originally known as Christmas in April – Lowell.

The local organization assists residents of the city of Lowell, Massachusetts who are in need of repairs to their home, but they either cannot afford to pay for their repairs or are physically unable to do the repairs themselves. Qualified residents include those who are either low-income, elderly, disabled, veterans, and families with children who own their own homes and have homeowners insurance, are eligible to apply.

Repair and renovation work is done completely with the help of volunteers using materials that was donated by local businesses or purchased using financial contributions. Lowell residents may apply to have work done, and Rebuilding Together board members will visit the applicants home and to interview the residents and assess the situation.

Volunteers are the heart of this organization, and they are always looking for people to work with them – even those without building experience. People who have experience with repair and construction projects such as carpentry, electrical systems, plumbing, roofing, flooring, HVAC and other home construction are particularly needed, and those without the experience can help with painting, landscaping, cleaning, and other needs.
