Documentary Film Screening for Earth Week
River Cycle: The Concord in Lowell, a new documentary film, explores both past and present, from Native American fishing to current development of a recreational Greenway Park. It shows the Concord’s key role in the stories we tell about industry, community, and nature. And it demonstrates how the purpose and meaning of the river changed over time, as our society changed, with the rise of manufacturing, economic decline, and current efforts at urban revitalization.
This is River Cycle’s premiere, and the evening will be complemented by a public unveiling of other resources designed to turn the finished Greenway Park into an outdoor classroom. Over the course of the past two years, various individuals and local organizations have created historical signage, an interactive website, a hands-on streamside program for school kids, and a public tour. The wide range of those involved has included the University of Massachusetts Lowell, the Tsongas Industrial History Center (UML), the Lowell Parks & Conservation Trust, the Lowell National Historical Park, and others. Join us to learn more and experience an important step in remaking Lowell.
The event is free and open to the public.
