Hockey player signs AHL amateur tryout agreement.

Scott Campbell signs ATO with Houston Aeros, AHL affiliate of Minnesota Wild

HOUSTON, TX – Forward Scott Campbell (Navan, Ont.), who recently completed a four-year career at UMass Lowell, has signed an amateur tryout agreement with the Houston Aeros on Monday, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Minnesota Wild. The center iceman will wear number 24 with the Aeros.

The Ontario native recently concluded his stellar career with the River Hawks, finishing tied for 54th on the program’s all-time scoring list with 85 points on 39 goals and 46 assists. Hampered by an injury as a senior, Campbell was limited to 12 games in 2010-11, scoring two goals and one assist.

A two-time UMass Lowell scoring champion, Campbell led the River Hawks with a team-high 34 points as a junior and 30 points as a sophomore. He also owns a spot in the program’s record book for the fastest goal to start a game: scoring 11 seconds into an eventual 4-4 tie with Boston College on Feb. 14, 2009.

As a sophomore, he was an integral part of UMass Lowell’s run to the Hockey East Championship game at the Boston Garden. Campbell was named to the HE All-Tournament Team after leading the club through a two-game sweep of Vermont and an overtime thriller with Northeastern. He finished tied for the HE playoff lead in points (6) and goals (3).

Campbell is the second River Hawk to sign a professional contract following the conclusion of the 2010-11 season; defenseman Maury Edwards (Rocky Rapids, Alta.) joined the Providence Bruins on Mar. 9.
