Spinners Idol returns to Lowell for 2010 season.

LOWELL, MA – With a chance to perform in front of a sold out crowd at legendary Fenway Park on the line, the Lowell Spinners, Class-A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, announced the popular “Spinners Idol” contest is back for 2010!

With the Spinners again participating at Fenway Park in the fifth annual Futures at Fenway, the team is looking for the best young talent to bring a big league atmosphere to the renowned home of the Red Sox, with the grand prize winner receiving the opportunity to perform prior to the team’s game at Fenway Park as well as their 2010 LeLacheur Park Opening Night, June 21.

The contest is presented in conjunction with Music Ball Entertainment in Boston, who have worked with national recording acts including pop princess JoJo, LFO and Boys Like Girls. The studio is offering the grand prize winner both complimentary studio time and a free demo tape.

Additionally, all “Spinners Idol” finalists will be invited to sing the National Anthem prior to a 2010 Spinners home game.

“Playing with the Lowell Spinners is a first step for many young baseball players,” said Lowell Spinners Vice President and General Manager Tim Bawmann. “From Papelbon to Ellsbury, they’ve gotten their start in Lowell. It would be fitting for the next JoJo or Rich Cronin getting their shot at Spinners Idol.”

2008 Spinners Idol winner Jess Paleno has been able to use the contest to launch her music career. After winning the contest, Jess worked with Music Ball Entertainment, joining the girl group “Three AM.” Last spring, the group had one of their songs featured on the soundtrack for the major motion picture “Friday the 13th.”

Two audition events are scheduled, both to be held at The Skybox in Tewksbury beginning at 4 p.m.: Wednesday, May 5 and Wednesday, May 12. Each location will be limited to 50 auditions.

To register for a time-slot, candidates must return the registration form posted at the Lowell Spinners website (www.lowellspinners.com ) or call the Spinners Offices at 978-459-1702.

Guest judges for “Spinners Idol” include Mike Caputo and L- Balz, owners of MusicBall Entertainment. Caputo and Balz have helped develop and contribute to the success of LFO, JoJo and Boys Like Girls.
