Buy a brick in the NEQM signature quilt.

In the 19th century, many women raised funds for needed repairs to churches and other vital town buildings by selling spots for signatures on signature quilts. Join New England Quilt Museum volunteers and staff in reviving this great American tradition by buying a “brick” in a wall quilt at the opening reception for Women’s Writes, on May 15, 2010 at 1:00 pm at the New England Quilt Museum.

Six-inch Rail Fence blocks, made with scrappy brick-colored fabrics generously donated by P&B Textiles, will be available at the reception, to be signed by donors to the building fund and incorporated into a commemorative quilt in the shape of a brick wall resembling the walls of the NEQM’s historic building.

Donate $5 to “buy a brick,” sign your “brick,” and help preserve the Museum’s 1845 building, while bringing the tradition of fundraising signature quilts, exemplified in the quilts of Women’s Writes, to a new generation of quilters.
