Lowell, MA –Wicked Irish, a Lowell-based apparel company, in collaboration with UMass Lowell, announce today that they will host a party on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at the Tsongas Center for “Irish” Micky Ward and his brother Dickie Eklund. This event, themed “Wicked Irish Thunder” is a tribute to their boxing careers as well as recognition of the highly anticipated blockbuster film, The Fighter starring Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale and Amy Adams.

“We are very excited that Wicked Irish & UMass Lowell is pulling this event together for us,” said “Irish” Micky Ward. “We want this night to be a celebration for our family, friends and fans that have always been so supportive of Dickie and me.”
Event sponsors Wicked Irish have clarified that this evening is simply a party/celebration for Micky, his brother and all his followers, rather than a premiere party. “We will not be showing the film during our party, instead, it’s an opportunity for all of Micky’s fans to come see him, and several of the actors, from the film”, stated Frank McCabe, a Wicked Irish executive.

“The Fighter is an incredible story about one of Lowell’s best-known athletes,” said UMass Lowell Chancellor Marty Meehan. “This event will showcase this locally made film and will be a great night for the Lowell community to come together and celebrate.”

Celebrity guests will include former New England Patriots stars Troy Brown and Christian Fauria, Boston Bruins legend Ray Bourque, former Bruin Lyndon Byers, and many more. Attendees at the red-carpet style event will see highlight films of both Ward and Eklund’s greatest fights and exclusive behind the scenes footage of The Fighter.

The party will be open to the general public and tickets will be sold for $20.00 each. Additionally, V.I.P. and corporate sponsor packages are available for the event. The doors for the after-party will open at 8:00PM. Tickets are available at the Tsongas Center box office, on-line at www.tsongascenter.com or charge by phone at 1-866-722-8780. Proceeds will benefit Team Micky Ward Charities. If you have any questions on the event, please go to www.wickedirish.com or their Facebook fan page (“Wicked Irish”).
